For many of us, the holidays bring a lot of stress and if you’re anything like us, roughly 60% of our stress comes from trying to figure out the best way to navigate the holidays around crazy relatives! We have found a simple solution to this. Wine.

Sometimes entering a family event feels more like walking into a house party than it does a holiday dinner. Some of us may have the type of family that’s loud, jolly, and fun, and their laughter can be heard a block away. For others, their family can be overbearing and obnoxious, as families often are. At We The People Wine we have spent most of our lives trying to figure out the best way to navigate the holidays with family, and our best answer we’ve come up with is wine.

Unfortunately, not all wines pair with all foods, just as certain wines pair better with certain family members. So what should you be serving your relatives this holiday season? Here are some of our suggestions.

For the Republican: Cabernet Sauvignon: The rich flavor and high tannin content in Cabernet Sauvignon make it a perfect partner for grilled meats, peppery sauces, and dishes with high flavor. Cabernets are classic and still a red wine gold standard for many, and Republicans won’t fight you on it. Especially if you serve them our 2018 California Cabernet, which is the first-ever conservative Cabernet Sauvignon.

For the Know-It-All College Liberal: Moscato: Is known for its sweet and fragrant aroma and fruity flavors. Its low alcohol content and light body make it a perfect wine for festive events. The sweet flavor is a safe bet for those who may be easily offended by strong flavors and opinions.

For the Elders: Port Wine: Port wine is typically relegated to either one of two pigeon holes: fireside sipping in a Churchill biopic or as a dessert drink after holiday meals when you’re quietly waiting for your relatives to leave. This gives grandpa and grandma a great opportunity to enjoy an amazing wine and cherish the holiday spirit and family around them.

For the Ones You Love: EVERYTHING: There is a reason they call it “sharing” a bottle of wine, and that is because it is more enjoyable that way. However, you can never go wrong with an amazing bottle of Chardonnay. We recommend our 2019 Chardonnay that appears with gilded straw color and invites with aromas of white flowers. Stone fruit and baked apples drive the flavor profile while a medium body balances fresh acidity in its clean finish. The perfect holiday wine to share with the ones you love and the perfect wine to pair with a big holiday meal.

There are many other wines and several relative profiles, but at the end of the day, any type of wine can help spark a conversation and bring a little joy to everyone’s holiday. However, we wouldn’t be doing our due diligence without warning you that Wine can also be the spark that sets family feuds ablaze.

We wish you a wonderful and safe holiday! As always we would love to hear from you and learn more about your favorite wines to serve during the holidays. Feel free to email us at support@wethepeople.wine.
